The air was cool tonight, as most summer nights had been this year. A gentle breeze sent a low murmur through the boughs of the pine trees. No stars tonight. Just a sliver of moon peeking out from behind thin grey clouds.
I closed my eyes for a moment, and tried to picture the movement of the clouds. Was the breeze at the floor of the clearing pushing in the same direction as the strong winds in the lower atmosphere? In what direction would I shift if the wind were to push me? The breeze answered, lightly brushing the left side of my face, and pushing through the hairs of my beard. Southeast, if I recall the map correctly. Out into the ocean.
Somewhere across the sea, another boy like me may be sitting on the beach. That same breeze will have carried particles of me. The moisture of my lips will touch his own lips, and for the briefest of moments, him and I will be together in a kiss which can only be measured by the most precise of instruments. But this boy is not my love.

Normally I wasn't a big fan of being sent home early. The night was already wasted. By eleven, most everything was closed, and I never had the energy to venture into a bar and be the sad sack drinking overpriced gin and tonics alone. “No, I won’t be having a meal, because I’m a cheap bastard and the food will dilute the alcohol, making it harder to get drunk and forget my workday in the haze.” So an early night off simply meant staggering into bed a few hours earlier, throwing off my sleep cycle for the next couple of days.
But tonight, I had to have it. If I stayed in the facility one hour, one minute, one fragment of time more with those drug-seeking crybabies, I’d have to check myself in under suicide watch. Everyday I grew colder and colder to their requests, until sometimes even a simple request for water felt like a slap in the face.
“I have to get out of there,” I said, choking back a stream of bile that could engulf the entire apart
